A Primer of U.S. Policy-Making

The Policy Making-Process is a classic primer on the policy making process in the United States. The author, Charles Lindblom is considered a classic thinker in American Policy, who emphasizes diversity in decision making in order to create "intelligence." In short, he advocates getting more people involed in the process, as well as soliciting a wider point of view.
The book is set up in four parts. First, he introduces the nature of policy-making, writing of the challenges, limits, and potential of American policy-making. Second, he writes about the impact of government and politics on the policy process in creating change, or more often holding on to the status quo. The third section describes the broader influences of polciy making, and articulates that policy making by "The People" is often an up-hill battle. In the fourth section Lindblom offers advice how to improve the policy process.
I believe this is an excellent primer on the topic because it simplifies a very difficult process, and creates a broad understanding, which a reader may use as a basis to delve further into policy-making.
Lindblom's work is very reader-friendly. It is short, to the point, and easy to read.

policy-making as a political counteraction

This book makes a comparison between effectiveness of analysis and play of power in making public policy. In this book, the author raises the hand of the play of power because he thinks that the most objective analysis also must be influenced by the opinion, selection and personality of policy analysis professionals. I agree. I believe that the human being is not the God. If there are socialists or analysis professionals say that they have perfect analysis, I regard them as ambitious people being eager to control and suppress the public under so-called the flag of truth. Therefore we have to find other ways in order to explain the policy making process. The author finds the way in the political counteraction among interests who are affected by the policy. He named this situation as the play of power. In this rule, they ultimately enjoyed the policy favoring them as everyone takes an effort to effect particular policy. He also argues that the inequality in the play of power is natural. Because there are many differences-for instance, organization, manpower, available money, accessibility to the policy-making process, etc-among social groups. Generally these differences are under hand of the elite and constantly are reproduced and reinforced by educational condition, wealth and socialization. Also he criticizes contradiction of the voting process. The reason is that there are many policies but voters have only one vote. He says, therefore voters are naturally excluded in the policy-making process. In this book, Lindblem shows his insight into policy-making process. Although he emphasizes the political counteraction in the policy-making process, he does not ignore the effectiveness. What he really emphasizes is the harmony between analytical and political approach. When we look at the policy-making through this harmony between two opinions, we will reach the real understanding of one. But he leaves difficult problem to us. That is a solution about overcoming the inequality in the policy-making.

A Great Introduction to C#

I think this book does a great job of introducing the basics of the C# programming language. I read the book cover to cover and did all the exercises and even created a few of my own. I feel pretty good about basic OOP concepts now. Mr. Bako seems to have a way with making those concepts simple, relatively straight forward and I no longer feel that I'm on shaky ground with OOP at this level of depth.

The book introduces C# using the console window and does not teach the .NET Framework. I think this is a logical progression in C# and you'll be glad you finished the book. I'm guessing that (.NET) may come in the next book that Mr. Bako writes for C#. Honestly, I can hardly wait for it. When will that book get written and published? That's hard to tell.

I highly recommend this book as an introduction to the language. You'll get your feet wet with C# and you'll make sense of the language to where you won't be lost when it comes to incorporating the .NET Framework later. If you already program in another language, you'll whiz right through this book. If you're new to programming period, you won't get lost and you'll feel much more confident in using your new skills. You'll gain that confidence if you make sure that you do all the exercises in the book. They're not hard and they get you thinking. Definitely worth the time it takes to do them.

Here's hoping Mr. Bako writes the intermediate level C# book soon. I haven't seen anything showing that it is in the works. Only a comment or so written in the book. I'm currently working on the .NET framwork with C#. Call it impatience, but I need to keep going with the language.

The book does a great job of teaching the very basics of C#. If you're on the fence about getting it, don't hesitate and go for it! The price is right and it's not a 1000 page tome to muddle through either.

Another great Joes2Pros book

I own 3 other Joes2Pros books on SQL, and when I saw there is another Joes2Pros book out, I didn't have to think twice to purchase this new C# book. I've had such great experiences with Joes2Pros books, I am basically waiting for each one as soon as it is fresh off the press. I was new to SQL, and when I finished the 3 Joes2Pros SQL books, I feel like a Pro. C# is widely used in the tech job market, and by the time I was done, this regular Joe truly feels like a Pro. This book is written in a very clear way, and really helps you understand the C# language. I love all the Joes2Pros books, I strongly recommend this book to anyone who wants to clearly understand C#, and actually have fun and enjoys it while learning.

Joes2Pros saved my life

I was attending a college class on C# programming in the .net environment and the instructor was teaching theory and then not letting us learn how to program. I was in big trouble, and was way behind. A fellow classmate suggested the Joes2pros book on c#, so I got it.

What an incredible difference. It literally opened my eyes to what I was trying to learn. Every chapter was well paced and well thought out. There were plenty of opportunities to code and to learn new skills. and each chapter's skills were building all the way through the book. I cannot wait for the next book in the series. I cannot recommend the Joes2pros series enough. Fantastic.

What a lovely story. Another Blake man loses his heart. This story is a little different. Changing is the baby of the Blake men. Lately he has been feeling like he is missing out on something. An old hook up comes back to town thinking that maybe they are meant to be, but Channing isn't having it. His heart remembers a fellow law student and when the opportunity arises that he may see her at an engagement party of mutual friends, he acts on their meeting. Cassidy cannot believe she still have feelings for a man who seems to have a girlfriend. Little does she know, but Channing is about to pull out all the stops for her.

Love it and it was worth the wait.

This was a very touching and sweet story. Channing and Cassidy are perfectly made for each other. I love the whole Blake Boys series and I can't wait for the next installment to come out. I love how this book is about family and compassion, it was great catching up on all of the family. I here John jacob and Teri Lynn's story is coming out soon and I hope Bo and Charisma's comes out as well. This is a well written and heart warming story.

Ok, So I Just Finished Reading Channing and Cassidy's Story and My Mind is Reeling and My Heart Is Heavy. Why Do I Get The Feeling That Cassidy Will Be The One To Break The Blake's Super Genetic Gene Pool and Give Channing A Girl But Won't Live Long Enough Too See Her Grow Up. I Was Blown Away By This Story Line But I Guess Every Good Series Needs A Curve Ball To Mix Things Up A Bit And This Delivered. Although When It Was Revealed Why Cassidy Disappeared For One Year I Cried, Literally! I Just Hope That As These Characters Are Brought To Life On Paper We Get To Experience More Happy Times than Sad. I ABSOLUTELY Love Rhonda Laurel and Her Creative Abilities To Give Us Ten Books And Counting With Such Complex Characters And The Best Is Yet To Come. I'm Counting Down To The Continuing Story Of Channing And Cassidy. Mrs. or Ms. Laurel May The Writing GODS Keep Cassidy Alive For A Looooong Time. THANK YOU RHONDA LAUREL

About the Author
Wayne Gretzky, nicknamed “The Great One,” is considered by many to be the greatest hockey player ever. He is the leading scorer in NHL history, and is the only NHL player to total more than two hundred points in one season—a feat he accomplished four times. At the time of his retirement in 1999, he held sixty-one separate NHL records (forty regular season, fifteen playoff, and six All-Star)—and still holds most of them today. His honors include 31 Hart, Art Ross, Conn Smythe, Lester B. Pearson, and Lady Byng trophies and awards.

His teams included the Edmonton Oilers (1979–1988, including four Stanley Cups), the Los Angeles Kings (1988–1996, including a Stanley Cup final), the St. Louis Blues (1996), and the New York Rangers (1996–1999). Following his retirement, he became the ninth and final player to be ushered into the Hall of Fame with no waiting period, and the first to have his jersey number retired league-wide.

Among his activities since, he has been minority owner and head coach of the Phoenix Coyotes and executive director of Canada’s 2002 gold medal-winning men’s hockey team, and is a restaurateur, winemaker, and philanthropist with his own Wayne Gretzky Foundation. He lives with his family in Westlake Village, California.
 
Kirstie McLellan Day is the coauthor of the Canadian bestselling hockey memoirs Cornered (HarperCollins, 2011), with Ron MacLean; Playing with Fire (Triumph, 2010), with Theo Fleury; and Tough Guy (Triumph, 2009), with Bob Probert. She lives in Calgary, Alberta.

Gretzky Scores Again!

Even the casual hockey fan knows the name and the legend of Wayne Gretzky and it's hard to separate the person from his reputation as The Great One. This is a wonderful book because it celebrates Gretzky's love and reverence for the game by examining the 99 year history of the NHL through the eyes of its greatest player. The stories of the players that made hockey such a wonderful sport through the early years are interspersed with Gretzky's stories of how those players impacted his development as a person and as a player. As such, this book is not only a terrific work of sports history, but also a fabulous autobiography that yields compelling insights into Gretzky himself. Much like Gordie Howe's autobiography, Mr. Hockey, I was left with an overwhelming sense of just how down to earth some sports superstars can be. Rather than extolling their own virtues, these players constantly talk about Gratitude. It's all about how grateful they are to their parents, coaches, teammates and their fans. If you are sick and tired of the typical ego-maniacal professional athlete, read this book for a breath of fresh air.

the content overshadows lack of quality writing

99 is unquestionably the greatest hockey player of all time. the same cannot be said for his writing skill. there is not great flow in his thoughts and at times the chapters feel a bit disjointed. however, the quality of what he writes about is fantastic. i love reading books by some of the greatest sharing their insights and stories and this point certainly satisfies. a must for any hockey fan!

In order to decide on the type of treatment, the clinician must examine the patient's subjective experience (such as symptoms of anxiety or depression), observable behaviors (such as investments in relationships and deficits in functioning), and psychological structures (such as identity, defenses, and reality testing). * Next, the clinician learns to establish the conditions of treatment through negotiating a verbal treatment contract or understanding with the patient.
